Porto’s Bakery

June 18, 2010

Porto’s is a Cuban-style family bakery and cafe that serves sandwiches and beautiful, picture perfect pastries.   Although, everything at Porto’s is amazingly delicious I recommend trying the Ropa Vieja or Pan con Bistec sandwiches, Meat Pies, Potato Balls, Mariquitas (homemade plantain), Tres Leches and the Mango smoothie!   Everything is very reasonably priced.  The one and only thing I can complain about is the fact that it is always super packed inside!  However, it is worth every second of the wait!

Borttega Louie - restaurant, gourmet market, patisserie, and bar
It is absolutely amazing.  From the pastries, broccolini, to the pepperoni and sausage pizza, and the pork chops with apple sauce ummm ummm good!  This is one of my favorite spots to eat in Downtown LA.  It has a homely yet sleekish feel to it.  I especially enjoy being able to view the chef and cooks prepare the meals.  You can purchase house sauces, jarred honey, and great pastries at the gourmet market.   The berry lemonade and Bulgarini Gelato is fabulous and highly recommended!  In my opinion the menu is priced pretty reasonably considering the quality in the food and service.

I personally know Jason Mattick – Executive Chef of Palate.  He is an amazing chef and has a passion for food.  He consistently busts out extraordinary dishes every single time.   His mind never stops thinking about enhancements. Palate serves California style cuisine that is farmer-grown driven.  The atmostphere is fresh, calm, hella chill, and can easily be turned into a romantic evening.

Every now and again, if you’re lucky you might have the pleasures of hearing  special guest dj’s spinning while you enjoy your meal.  Additionally, Stones Throw is often in the house (at least once a month).  Check back for more updated info.
